The Capital Building |
Washington, D.C. It's one of the most beautiful American cities I've seen in terms of architecture. Being there, it was hard to believe that the buildings were real. I've only seen them in print these 24 years and seeing them in person was a bit surreal at first. I love that feeling. It always fills me with a sense of privilege. I've seen history with my own eyes. Do you know how many people in the world will never leave their village? I really do thank God for all that I've been blessed to see in this world!
My favorite building was the Smithsonian Castle (so Harry Potter-like!). My imagination was really able to run wild looking at that building. Unfortunately I couldn't snag a good picture of it, maybe next time. As far as all the political-y buildings, my favorite was the capital...hands down. We had a tour of its rooms and all the paintings and statues were exciting to see.
I wanted to share with you some of the best pics of the day...enjoy!
The front of the capital, flanked by the House and Senate |
John and I with our nephew Zeb leaving the Thomas Jefferson Library |
The Supreme Court Building |
The Back of the White House (sadly, no Obama...) |
Our zoom lens captured a sniper in bullet proof vest! |
The Washington Monument |
The Vietnam Memorial Wall |
Me and honest Abe! |
What is your favorite building in D.C.? Why?
P.S. None of you told me how flippin' spread out everything is there!! I think I walked about 1,000 miles in that one day. I'm still sore from it! It's ok though, I forgive you. ;)
Great photos, I love DC! It's been 14 years since I've been there but I definitely want to go back!
ReplyDeletei adore DC too. we go probably once every six months since two of my best friends live down there. are you coming to NYC on this trip? we're only a bus ride away!

Beautiful! I've been to DC but I don't really remember much since it was when I was much younger. I did go to Harrisburg to see our (PA) capitol building a few years ago w/ my friend KC and that was pretty darn cool! Love the white, huge buildings!
ReplyDeleteI love the White House!! Glad you enjoyed your trip :)

ReplyDeleteAndrea- Nope. I didn't actually see it up close. My husband took that picture. I was way WAY too tired to walk over there.
ReplyDeleteOmg, wasn't the subway AWESOME, though? I have seriously never been on a cleaner public transportation system in my life.

ReplyDeleteI love the Lincoln Memorial. DC is gorgeous when the cherry blossoms bloom in early April :) Did you get a chance to visit any of the wonderful free museums?
ReplyDeleteLittle random happiness- Oh I wish! I wanted to go to one so badly but there was just too much to see in one day. Our schedule was jam packed just seeing all that we did see! Next time...
ReplyDeleteglad you enjoyed it and got to see all the highlights! did you have a chance to see the declaration of independence and the constitution? that's pretty amazing too, at least the security and ugly green lights everywhere are.
ReplyDeletei don't know what my favorite building is... i know the originally building on my university campus in SC was designed by the same architect that built the washington monument... so that gives it brownie points
and if you want a free tv, hang out around lots of trash, and know someone who can fix tvs, ha

ReplyDeleteHAHA, I love the "I will snipe you". We play kickball right by the white house, and there are snipers on every building. I never knew if I should feel more secure, or more of a target?
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, sorry, we're super spread out. But I bet you earned some awesome dinner!
