Weekend Update| October 3, 2011

So John has been out of town this past week, leaving me to a weekend all by my lonesome. I made sure to fill up my schedule though, and had lots of fun with family and friends despite the fact that my husband was exploring the beauty of the Grand Canyon without yours truly.

Saturday morning and afternoon I went wedding dress shopping with both of my bride-to-be friends. Kayla got some good ideas and Becky actually found "the one!" Saturday night I spent sitting on my butt on the couch.

Sunday I went to church with my dad and we had an awesome time. It is days like yesterday that I know we made a great choice on our church home. The sermon was hard-hitting, honest, uplifting, and came with a challenge. It was one of the best Sundays I've had in a while. After, my dad and I went to the farmer's market and had a picnic. Also one of the best days I've had with my dad, too!

This week, I'm severely lacking on pictures. But I did want to close out with...

"10 Things I Do or Don't Do When My Husband is Gone."

1. I don't shower...like, at all. (see above picture...) I mean, why bother when there's no one around to smell you?

2. I eat meals of random things. Why yes, popcorn, carrots, gouda cheese, and almond milk go together perfectly!

3. I narrate my cooking with various accents as if I was being recorded for a Food Network special.

4. I watch 50% more T.V. when I'm home alone.

5. I don't clean. I mean, the kitchen stays neat, but everything else was a disaster area.

6. I don't sleep as well when he's gone.

7. I imagine horrible things happening to me while I'm alone...like horror movie stuff, folks!

8. I wear the same outfit for the entire weekend because I can...

9. I get to have more time with friends than I normally would.

10. I miss him terribly.

Question of the Day:
How do you handle your spouse being away?

  1. Your Sunday sounds lovely :) We had a bunch of cold rain this weekend, so my Saturday & Sunday were primarily spent indoors snuggling under blankets with Gracie ...

I agree with everything on your list-- especially about eating random things for dinner :) One of the few good things about Jon being away is that I can eat exactly what I want & no one will raise their eyebrows (bwahaha, or more realistically say, 'Where's the meat?!"...)

  2. My wife is vegetarian so when she is away I eat spare ribs in my underpants while watching Third Division football on the telly. And drinking beer.

  3. Haha, you're funny girl. Glad to hear you had some you-weekend time...besides the wedding dress shopping.

  4. Sounds like you had a great week-end, how nice to have one special day with your dad!
As for my husband being away, it happens too often with his work, so I have to shower and cook and clean, or I don't know how all would look like after 10 or 15 days!!!!!!!
But on the 2 last points, I am with you.........Stay well. xx

  5. Ohh, I totally give myself a facial. In fact, just did yesterday! I love the hubs, love him around. But we are around each other alllll the time. Guess that is a pro of living abroad. So when he has his away games, I am all over the 'me' time :) Hope you aren't missing him too badly!

  6. Ha! I don't shower much either and I always envision horror-movie type things! One time when he left for band practice at 930 at night, I was already curled up in bed and he called saying, "just saying, don't open the door when I'm not home late at night. you never know who could be there." and I was totally freaked out all night!! lol, he could have said that like, a normal day, normal hours, when he was home, not when he had just left me alone!

  8. well my husband isn't home on average a least 3 days a week...boo :( I clean more ( it keeps me busy) I hardly watch t.v. ... BUT I am soooo with you on eating random meals, not sleeping well at all, and missing him terribly :)

  9. I totally do that while I'm at home alone. Its like I become a bachelor. It's actually pretty pathetic. Though the alone time is nice sometimes!

  10. hah I have so many similar thoughts, feelings when my hubs is away and that is quite often. so I make as much time as possible with friends, enjoy a glass of wine every night, and my favorite READ!! I don't get to do much of it when he is around, bc i just want to hang out with him. xo

  11. i definitely have similar habits! mark is leaving for almost 3 weeks on wednesday so i'm gearing up! although, i have to work during the week so i guess i'll shower!

  12. about the same thing, when my husband was working 120 hrs a week, a lot of random meals, not sleeping well, showering only every other day, wearing the same outfits because i don't leave the house because i had no one to hang out with

but it sounds like you enjoyed your weekend and made the most out of it!

  14. I loved your list! All of the times we've been apart since we've been married is because I am the one that is traveling... I would HATE being home alone without him! I'm sure I would watch a ton of TV and eat random things too.

  15. Awww I love this list of things. Totally agree about the shower thing and I totally don't stress about making fancy dinners. And yes, much more TV! Course now that I have a baby I miss him more when he's gone! Ha

  16. What a great list of things to do and not do. I usually stay in my PJs all day and read and nap and eat all his goodies (because on a normal day, I don't eat that stuff!)

  17. I am the SAME way when hubby is gone...especially the part about sleeping alone and letting my imagination run wild...no bueno!

  20. in 11 years together my dear man has been away from me only for two weeks... it was a disaster. both kids got sick and at that time i didn`t drive a car... he called me every night and i think we talked more than we usually do on ordinary days... but i am glad to have him home. i am very independent but ... so in love : )

  21. ha, this list is so darn true! I HATE when my hubby travels. It's just too quiet (after the kids go to bed, of course) and every noise freaks me out! :)

    Good luck packing up!!

  22. Great list - so true! Jalapeno peppers and salt and vinegar potato chips are a regular meal when my husband is away.

  23. Same here! I eat all sorts of odd things together and I don't sleep well at all. I hate it when he's gone!
