The End of an Era

I had planned to tell you all about my D.C. trip today, but got side-tracked last night and forgot to upload my pictures. Why you ask? Oh, only an evening showing of...

Yup, John and I headed out to our local Regal, free movie passes in hand (yes!), to see one of the biggest blockbusters of my generation (well, aside from Titanic, maybe.) Even though it's only four days after its release into theaters I feel like we were late in seeing it. Everyone has been talking about this movie both in person and in the blogosphere, and for good reason- the movie kicks arse (as Harry might say)!

What a great ending to it all. I don't think I blinked the entire time.  The ending was a complete surprise as I've never read the  books...

I know, I know.

I won't give anything away too much in case there happens to be one lonely soul out there that's waited to see it longer than I have. What I will say is that my favorite part about the movie is the role Neville plays. Throughout the series he has held a special place in my heart, and I so enjoyed seeing him in action to fight the epic battle against evil! Rawr!

On another note, are we the only ones that bring homemade goodies to the theater as snacks? We hate paying for popcorn or candy, and honestly don't like eating candy any more as we've done a lot in our daily diet to reign in our sweet tooth. But last night I did cut up a couple pieces of this to smuggle (MUGGLE!) into the theater. I felt a little awkward busting out our Pyrex cups and clinking around with metal forks but the joy I felt in the midst of my consumer anarchy made up for it!

How about you? Do you bring your own homemade snacks into the theater?

  1. You haven't read the books? Oh my goodness you need to read them soon, they are SO good
I haven't seen the last couple of movies so i'm definitely going to need to have a harry potter-athon before i see it!
And yes, i totally sneak in ziploc bags full of healthy and sometimes unhealthy snacks, i usually wait till the lights go down to avoid awkward looks from people in the seats around us :o)

  4. Ah! I haven't seen it yet!! My family (sister, her hubs and my dad) plus lots of my friends are big fans, but not my hubby. So, I have not yet seen it. I didn't see part 1 until it had come out on DVD! But, I will try not to let that happen again.

I hate paying for food at the theaters, but I swear I read something about how it's not "ethical" because they have to price it so high for some dumb reason, but we usually do eat at the theater anyway. If we bring something it's candy I have in house or pop/water bottles. Sometimes we go pick up candy to eat at the theater!! But I DO love their popcorn, no substitute for that!!!

  6. I just blogged about this too! I love, Love, LOVED the movie! I almost always stick a little snack or something in my bag when we go to the movies...I thought everyone did this. Well, if not, they should. ☺

  7. I haven't seen the movie yet...so don't worry... ;) And well, as it looks like I might not watch it at all. I know, HORRIBLE!! However, I missed *yes I admit that* the last two movies so I don't want to watch the last one now and get confused. And yes...shocker...I missed those. :((( However, I now I'll be owning the whole DVD collection anyways so it's okay. ;) HAHAHA. A movie marathon...best thing ever!!!

  8. I've not read the books or seen the films as wizards annoy me. They look like hobos, talk gibberish and get out of any problems by always knowing some handy spell and waving their wands about. You are right to take your own snacks to the cinema, why not go the whole way and take a picnic?

  9. Lol, Kyle gets so embarassed because I will totally shove an entire dinner for the two of us into my purse. It's not necessarily homemade but I just don't want to spend $20 on two hotdogs and a soda so I like to smuggle burritos or burgers in. We get weird looks from other people in the audience sometimes but it's totally worth it.

  10. I never read the books and *gasp* I might be the last person on this planet who did not watch the movie yet but once the crowd lessen, I might go and watch it.

I usually eat before I go to the movies because I hate eating theatre food. The popcorn is sooo greasy!

  14. I was able to smuggle a 1 liter bottle of soda and a large bag of kettle corn popcorn when we went and saw HP. It was $4 compared to like $12 :)

  15. Oh dear, I haven't read any of the books and the only reason I've seen the film is because of my son... We did go on Monday (said son's birthday) and I have to admit that we went all the way with popcorn, drinks etc... shame on me ;-) xo

  16. One time my friend snuck a whole Cafe Rio burrito into the theater! I still can't believe she got away with it... but it was a great story:)
I need to start bringing homemade snacks, that is such a great idea! We never buy stuff from the theater either because it is so expensive.
Love that you brought in some of your yummy cake!

  18. I can't believe you brought Pyrex cups and silverware into the theater - too funny! I LOVED the movie, and teared up several times throughout it. Luckily there were a lot of fellow snifflers around me, whew!

  21. I haven't seen any of the movies... I don't have any explanation other than I have only read 3.5 of the books, but I need to read them... I just want to have a life and I know if I start reading and watching, I won't!

  22. Of course I bring in my own can of Diet DP and popcorn baggie, haha. Not paying 8 dollars for a soda. Wasn't the movie awesome?!? I loved it, thought it was sooo good!

  23. *raises hand slowly* I've not seen it yet. I don't even know if it's playing over here yet and, if it is, an English version would be a bit far away. I've also not read the books so you're not alone in that one either, ha!

I've never brought my own food to the cinema, but I like the idea!

  28. i never read the books either and i also loved neville's character! he's enduring, so was that cardigan he was wearing.

i've never taken homemade treats into the theatre, in college we used to smuggle wendy's jr bacon cheese burgers and frosties into the movies

  29. The books are SO good - I'm glad you're going to read them!! And how awesome that you could see HP with free tickets! I love bringing my own snacks to the theatre. I hate paying for the over-priced stuff they have there! I like bring baked goods or even candy from home. When my sister was in college, she and a friend brought their own snacks in the theatre and a cop/security guy chased them down! Since then I've been a little nervous but do it anyway :)

  30. Ooh, I loved the last movie - soo good!

I always bring my own water to the theatre, and sometimes a snack. I think it's hilarious though that you packed up some cake - too cute =)

  31. I always pack healthy (well, healthier than the movie options) snacks!! Oh, and water too. I hate paying $6.00 for a bottle of water! I'm glad you had a wonderful time at the movie :)

  32. Oh Hannah I can't tell you how epic-ly sad I am that there are no more books or films! Am such a HP nerd. Neville in the book is even better!! Though I think that actor is marv. I once took pastries into a cinema :P

  33. You're going to loooove the the books, Hannah! The movies have been incredibly well made, but there's just so much more depth to the books. I-- literally-- can't talk about the final book or movie without getting chills. Those "kids" go through so much, and there are so many lessons to be learned within the plot and themes. My husband also hasn't read the books, so he got to be surprised by all the movies. I think we may read them together now. :)

Oh, and we snuck in Twizzlers!
